  1. Less is more

  2. Child-centered room:  No teachers desk in the front and center

  3. Church Calendar on the wall

  4. Space:  Ideally, children should be able to sit in a circle facing one another (carpet squares?)

  5. Simple Manipulatives: “The material must be simple, essential and “poor” in order to allow the richness of the theme’s content to shine through” (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd)

  6. Story Materials:  The Basic Set Includes

“People” (popsicle sticks/cardboard cut-outs)
Cloths that are liturgical colors (red, white, green, purple)
Blocks of wood
Desert box/bag
Church Calendar

  • Response Materials

One Journal (pad of paper per student)
Drawing Paper
Construction Paper
Watercolors/brushes
Markers/Crayons
Scissors
Glue
Modeling Clay
Scrap paper pile
Buttons, wood scraps, etc…
